Focus on processes

BWS has been producing in the region Märkischer Kreis of Germany since 1810. As a producer of stainless, acid and heat-resistant steel strip and special alloys, we have always focused on sustainable and durable materials that will protect the environment and are for this reason part of the circular economy. We invest sustainably in our processes and also select our suppliers very carefully; in addition, we have created a suitable framework for our processes with an energy management system (EnMS).

Steel as part of the circular economy

Steel is the most important metallic material in the world economy and a permanent material that can be recycled endlessly without any loss of quality and can therefore always be reentered into the economic cycle.

Around 500 million tons of steel are recycled worldwide every year, saving around one billion tons of raw material. Steel is part of almost every industrial value chain, either visible or hidden as part of the production of machinery and infrastructure goods. In recent studies, the reuse and remanufacturing of steel are moving into the focus of the sustainability discussion in addition to recyclability. The story of steel and sustainability is therefore far from over.

Supplier Management

BWS demands sustainability from its suppliers. When selecting suppliers, it is important to have qualified and trustworthy sources of supply that meet BWS’s high requirements for environmental standards. While feedstock is sourced mainly in Europe, BWS partners primarily with local and regional suppliers for its machinery, equipment and tooling requirements.
In recent years in particular, intensive research in the steel sector has made it possible to reduce the amount of energy, material and resources required per ton of steel produced and to minimize the proportion of high-grade alloying elements contained in the material for the respective application in a resource-saving way. BWS feedstock suppliers produce in compliance with all legal requirements, which are regulated amongst others by REACH and RoHS 2.

Energy and environmental management

BWS has created and established an energy management system (EnMS) in the organization, which aims to further minimize energy consumption and switch completely to alternative energies in the long term. Accompanying this process in a forward-looking and systematic manner, planning and implementing appropriate measures and, above all, reviewing their effectiveness in the overall context is part of the energy management system established at BWS.
